Humboldt, SK – The City of Humboldt will pause to remember the heartbreaking tragedy that occurred on April 6, 2018, as Monday, April 6, 2026, marks the 8th anniversary of the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos tragedy. This devastating event resulted in the loss of 16 lives and left a lasting impact on the 13 survivors, their families, and the entire Humboldt community.

At the Regular Meeting of Council on Monday, March 23, Mayor Rob Muench proclaimed April 6th, 2026, as “2017-18 Humboldt Broncos Day” in the City of Humboldt. The City encourages all citizens to take a moment on April 6th at 4:50 p.m., the approximate time of the tragedy, to reflect and honor the memory of those lost.

In addition, the Mayor also proclaimed Monday, April 7, 2025, as “Green Shirt Day” in Humboldt, commemorating the profound legacy of Logan Boulet, one of the Broncos players who tragically passed on April 7, 2018. Logan’s selfless decision to donate his organs sparked a national movement known as the “Logan Boulet Effect,” inspiring over 100,000 Canadians to register as organ donors in the days following his passing.

Mayor Muench  encourages all citizens to wear green on April 7th in recognition of Logan Boulet’s life and legacy. “Green Shirt Day” serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. Residents are encouraged to have important conversations with their families about organ donation, emphasizing the impact of such a selfless decision.

The City invites the entire community to participate in these commemorative observances and reflect on the lasting impact of these events. Together, we remember the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos and honor their memories.
