Communications

We strive to ensure our residents, stakeholders and visitors are well informed of what is happening in Humboldt. It is extremely important to us that you have access to trusted, timely and accurate information.

Communications’ Vision is to Foster a community that is aware and involved, and keeping city employees engaged and responsive who are capable of listening, sharing ideas openly and working collaboratively to shape Humboldt’s future.

Communications’ Mission is to provide a framework that enhances the City of Humboldt’s two-way communications capacity, improve stakeholder relationships, and deliver effective communications programs that help achieve organizational goals.

Communications’ Guiding Principles are:

  • Provide information that is timely, accurate, clear, accessible and responsive.
  • Consider the range of communication tools at our disposal and use those most appropriate to address the needs associated with each circumstance.
  • Work collaboratively across the corporation to ensure that information is thorough, factual and timely.
  • Respect the access to information and privacy rights of citizens and employees.
  • Support opportunities for engagement to inform public policy.
  • Strive to achieve a culture of two-way communication.
  • Effectively position our brand when identifying target markets and audiences so they understand why we’re valuable to them.
  • Research and understand our targets’ needs by seeing Humboldt through their eyes.
  • Think big and out of the box when creating and delivering our campaigns.

Reporting to the City Manager, the Communications Manager develops, implements, and provides leadership to advance all strategic communications and marketing  initiatives of the City, internally and externally. Corporate Communications addresses communication requirements for the Mayor, Council, Directors, and staff for all departments, and is the liaison with external organizations including government, media, consultants, and member organizations with the goal of establishing and maintaining professional, consistent, and timely two-way communications with all stakeholders.

In addition, Corporate Communications provides media and public relations, oversees the corporate brand and image, and promotes the City of Humboldt, our stakeholders, and our partners.

We encourage you to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and our web site for incident advisories issued by the Fire Department, street closures or other warnings from Public Works, and general day to day communications from City Council and Administration.
