Kaleb Dahlgren

June 10, 1997
Hometown: Saskatoon, SK
#16
Position: Center/Right Wing

Kaleb was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and developed a passion for hockey early in his life. He was running around with a hockey stick from the time he could walk and was on rollerblades at the age of 2 and skates when he was 2 ½ . Since there was no hockey for children this young, he joined figure skating and learned to skate.

At the age of 4 he started attending the Bert Hunt Hockey School which he would attend until he moved to Saskatoon in 2003. Kaleb was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 4 years old but never let it get in the way of pursuing his dreams in hockey and in life!

In 2003 Kaleb moved to Saskatoon with his parents and got his first taste of “real hockey” in the Timbits program. He could skate better than most of the kids and excelled in the program. The next year he entered the Saskatoon Minor Hockey League program where he played at the highest level right through to Midget.

Kaleb also played Spring AAA Hockey from Novice to Bantam and was a member of Team Saskatchewan at the International Invitational Brick Tournament in Edmonton, Alberta. He was also fortunate enough to play two summers in the Europe at the Czech Challenge Cup in Prague, Czech Republic.

Kaleb also played inline hockey, which took him to the World Inline Hockey Championship in Detroit, Michigan. He also played ball hockey and attended the Ball Hockey Nationals in Vancouver BC.  Soccer, football, basketball, volleyball and track and field were other sports Kaleb enjoyed playing.

Kaleb played his Midget AAA in North Battleford, Saskatchewan with the Battlefords AAA Stars. With the Stars, he made it to the league final twice, and attended the Mac’s Tournament in Calgary two years in a row.

Having been listed by the SJHL Notre Dame Hounds, Kaleb went to Wilcox, Saskatchewan following his second, and final, Stars season to join the Hounds in their playoff run, The Hounds also made it to the league final but were unable to win the final series.

Kaleb played in Wilcox with the Notre Dame Hounds for 2 seasons and then requested a trade to a larger center so he could start a mentorship program he had been dreaming of called Dahlgren’s Diabeauties. The program provides mentorship for children with Type 1 Diabetes.

While in Humboldt he was very active in the community and logged over 500 volunteer hours with Special Olympics, St. Dominic School, the Recreation Hockey Program, the “Taxi Crew”, Dahlgren’s Diabeauties and other community activities.

Following his time in Humboldt, Kaleb attended York University in Toronto, ON, on a hockey scholarship. Due to injuries he sustained in the bus crash, Kaleb was never cleared for contact and was unable to dress for a game.

While at York University he was a member of the York Lions Varsity Men’s Hockey Team and was able to practice, train and do everything his teammates did, except play on the weekend. As “Head of Recruiting” for the men’s varsity hockey team, Kaleb revitalized the player-recruiting process. Kaleb also obtained his personal training certificate and helped facilitate Strength & Conditioning for the Lions Hockey program. He also was the Men’s Hockey representative for the York University Varsity Student Athlete Sports Council for 2 years. He was on numerous committees and continued his volunteering with Dahlgren’s Diabeauties, HEROS Hockey and numerous other initiatives.

Kaleb will graduate from York University in the spring of 2021 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and plans to attend the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto in the fall of 2021.

Kaleb continues to live life to the fullest in honor of his 16 angels.
