About Rec-Create Humboldt:
Rec-Create Humboldt is a community-led steering committee formed to help guide the planning of a new recreation facility for Humboldt and the surrounding region. While the City of Humboldt initiated this process, the committee operates independently and at arm’s length from the City. Its sole purpose is to engage the community, gather input from stakeholders, and develop an evidence-based recommendation on what the next arts, sports, and wellness facility should look like to meet our current and future needs.
Work Completed to Date –
Community Open House:
- In May, 2025, the City hosted an open house to launch the conversation about a new recreation facility.
- Residents were invited to share their initial thoughts, priorities, and big ideas.
- The event attracted strong attendance, and participants highlighted the need for inclusive, multi-use spaces that serve a wide range of activities ages, and interests.
- Feedback gathered from this event has been summarized and will be carried forward into the next planning phases.
Formation of the Steering Committee:
- Following the open house, an open call was issued to the community for individuals interested in helping lead this important work.
- Applications were reviewed to ensure diverse representation across sectors such as sports, arts, wellness, accessibility, youth, seniors, Indigenous communities, and local business.
- The result is the formation of Rec-Create Humboldt – a steering committee of community members who will drive the engagement process and ultimately present recommendations on a future facility.
Community Organization Survey:
- The committee’s first major task is distributing a survey to all local clubs, groups, and organizations.
- This survey invites each organization to poll their membership and clearly identify their space, facility, and program needs.
- Survey results will help build a complete picture of the community’s needs, ensuring the committee’s recommendations are rooted in real, on-the-ground input
Next Steps:
- Ongoing stakeholder engagement sessions with community groups, schools, regional partners, and the general public.
- Analysis of engagement results, demographic data, and facility best practices.
- Development of draft concepts and options for consideration.
- Presentation of a final community-driven recommendation to City Council.
