Indoor Sports Court (Open April to September)

Are you a team who is looking for an indoor space to practice or train? Or, are you an individual looking for a place to walk some laps on a comfortable surface?

During the months of April to September, the Curling Rink is transformed into an indoor court to accommodate court users. This innovative flooring lays overtop the existing concrete flooring in the curling rink when the ice is out and converts it into a practical and useful multi-purpose sports court surface. This provides many sports groups, casual walkers, and other community users an accessible indoor location for practices and other forms of physical fitness.

Thank you to the “Humboldt Hustlers Club Volleyball” and Sask. Volleyball, Saskatchewan Lotteries Grants, and to the two donors who made a contribution in memory of Jacob Leicht, Brody Hinz, and Tyler Bieber, and their families for supporting this upgrade to our facility for our community.

Our Arena Namesake

Our arena was named after Elgar Petersen, a dedicated sports enthusiast who had a passion for sports and for helping kids. He became the Humboldt Broncos team trainer and equipment manager in 1970 when the team joined the SJHL and was very involved with growing the beloved sport of hockey in our community.

On September 15th, 2000, the rink was named in his honor and in 2015, in that very rink, he was inducted into the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame in the Grassroots Category.

Elgar passed away peacefully on November 3, 2018, but his contribution to the community will live on for decades, a legend in our hearts.
