UPDATE: RAINFALL ALERT

Posted: June 15, 2020

We are pleased to advise that Mayor Rob Muench has lifted the Local State of Emergency for the City of Humboldt that was declared yesterday due to the flooding.

There are reports that yesterday’s severe rainfall amounted to about four inches in some areas of the city, overwhelming portions of our stormwater systems and the ability to keep up.  The City is pleased to report that recent improvements to the City’s lift stations and water retention strategies are likely a big part of the reason that there are only minimal reports of flood damage throughout the City.  The City will be evaluating the measures it took in response to this storm event and evaluating how to continue to improve our storm water and sanitary sewer infrastructures.

We still want to remind residents to ensure that your sump pumps are functioning properly and that the discharge is being redirected outside of your home and not into the sanitary sewer system to help alleviate the potential damages to your basements, your neighbour’s basements, and the City’s sewer systems.
