Property Tax and Utility Deferral Program

Posted: April 28, 2020

The City of Humboldt recognizes that the Provincial Orders to contain the COVID-19 pandemic may be causing some financial hardship on residential and commercial property owners. The City of Humboldt wants to help our taxpayers and utility customers in this time of financial downturn.

At the April 27th, 2020 The Regular Meeting of Council, Council approved Administration’s recommendation to offer a “Property Tax and Utility Deferral Program” to our customers to provide some level of relief.

The key elements of the program are based on City staff working with our utility customers and taxpayers on a one-on-one basis to arrive at a mutually agreed upon manageable minimum monthly payment plan. Additionally, interest and/or penalties will be waived on outstanding balances provided the payment arrangements are met and maintained.

Minimum payment amounts that are paid regularly is one way to help keep outstanding amounts at reasonable levels for both the customer and the City.

To take advantage of the Utility Bill and/or Tax Deferral Program:

  • Utility customers are asked to call our Utility Clerk at 306-682-2525, extension 300
  • Taxpayers are asked to contact our Tax Assessor at 306-682-2525, extension 303.

Bills will be sent out, as per usual, showing new charges and the accumulating outstanding balance, if there is an outstanding balance.

If you have enrolled in the TIPPs and/or WIPPs payment options, your automatic debit payments can be modified according to your agreed upon payment arrangements with City Hall staff.

Communication with City staff is essential. We are here to help.
