Property Tax Incentive

At the regular Meeting of Council held on Monday, July 24, 2023, Council passed Bylaw No. 05/2023 – Property Tax Incentive for the Development of Residential Housing Units.

The bylaw provides a property tax incentive for the development of residential housing units intended to “kick-start” residential construction by offering a 3 year tax exemption on new builds. The exemption in property taxes is from the date of completion of construction onward to include three full calendar years.

Additionally, to simplify the program and to ensure housing at all price points are incentivized for new construction, the program has no maximum exemption dollar amount per unit.

The incentive program is meant to apply to all new residential construction permits issued from January 1, 2023 to September 1, 2026.

Location is everything! Strategically located in the heart of Saskatchewan, Humboldt is the Heart of Saskatchewan.

We are a growing city of 6,033 where Innovation, opportunity, sports, recreation, community involvement, arts and cultural events, hospitality and safety are just a few of the many reasons why people choose Humboldt as their home. Just one hour east of Saskatoon, Humboldt offers a perfect blend of urban opportunity, community involvement and scenic landscapes.

Our Location: Humboldt is centrally located along Highway 5, only 113KM east of Saskatoon.

Our Industries: Agriculture, manufacturing, and mining are our biggest assets. The success of these three sectors has developed the region as a service hub.

Locally Owned Trades: We have an abundance of full service successful entrepreneurs specializing in construction, excavation, electrical, mechanical, concrete and plumbing. These are all well equipped with project planning, reliability and potentially reducing development and maintenance costs.

Skilled Workforce: A strong skilled labour force continues to support our agriculture, manufacturing and mining industries.

Cost Competitiveness: A lower cost of doing business when compared to other jurisdictions, the region currently offers affordable land. Rising overhead costs and emerging logistical issues in larger centers, such as Saskatoon or Regina make Humboldt more attractive.

Key Transportation Corridor: Highways 5 & 20 intersect in Humboldt that link with TransCanada highways 16, 6, and 2, providing easy access north, south, east and west. The 2 major rail transportation networks, CN and CP, pass through or route near our city limits.
