Annual City Hosted Events
Each year, the City of Humboldt hosts community events for everyone’s enjoyment!
Community Christmas Tree Lighting
Discover the magic of small-town Christmas traditions!
Every year it seems like new Christmas traditions make their way into our lives and somewhere along the line we end up losing track of some of the old traditions. The Community Tree Lighting is one thing that somehow got lost along the way. So, in 2019, we brought it back and have been hosting the event ever since with new additions each year.
Christmas 2024
Christmas 2023
Another successful evening of gathering at Civic Park to light up our Christmas Tree. Thank-you again to our events sponsors, and to all of those who help out, attend and keep this beloved Holiday tradition alive in our community.
Christmas 2022
Christmas 2021
The weather was absolutely amazing for the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree. New this year we had Horse Drawn Hayrides by Kayden Hoppe and Arden Dust. The wagon was decorated to perfection, the horses were beautiful and the rides were enjoyed by everyone. We also had hot chocolate and a marshmallow roast to enjoy, along with Christmas music by the Humboldt Broncos.
But wait! We can’t forget about Santa! He was there to “flip the big switch” for the Christmas Tree with Mayor Michael Behiel. Then the children had an opportunity to meet Santa and get a picture with him.
Thank you to the following sponsors:
- Hergott Electric for building and donated our “Big Switch”.
- Northland Recreation Supply who built and donated the “Heart of it All” decoration.
- Sobeys, Terry’s No Frills, and Humboldt Coop for providing the hot chocolate, candy canes and marshmallows for the evening.
- The Humboldt Broncos in leading us in some Christmas Songs.
- Rev. Matteo Carboni
- Arden Dust and Kayden Hoppe for the Horse Drawn Hayrides.
Christmas 2020:
New this year, we placed our (new to us) 26ft artificial Christmas Tree in front of the gazebo in Civic Park! You are invited to stop by and admire its beauty and take some pix … when there are no crowds, of course. It will remain there until the first part of January so that everyone can enjoy it while observing Provincial Orders and practicing social distancing.
Thank you to all who contributed and made this event possible! A huge thank you to Northland Supply for creating and donating the “Heart of it All” decoration placed next to the tree and to Graham Dyck for an outstanding performance!
Thank you to Matt Nelson of the Humboldt Fire Department for taking the drone footage used in the video below!
Christmas 2019:
2019 was bitterly cold, yet many spectators came out to Civic Park, gathered around the tree, and sipped hot chocolate while the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Choir sang carols. The whole Humboldt Broncos Team joined in and Santa helped the Mayor “flick the switch”.
