Logan Hunter

November 9, 1999 - April 6, 2018
Hometown: St. Albert, AB
#18
Position: Right Wing

Logan loved everything about hockey and being a part of a team with a group of brothers meant everything to him. He was always an animal lover and spent much of his time playing with his bestfriend Charlie. He also enjoyed a competitive game of Settlers of Catan (his favourite boardgame). Logan loved kids and enjoyed being a mentor to younger athletes, aspiring to be a teacher one day.

He liked to tease his sisters and play practical jokes on anyone he was around. He would attempt to record his mom doing something embarrassing, telling her things just in hopes to get a reaction out of her. He loved a good laugh and even more so, loved to make others laugh.

Although Logan had a great shot and loved to score, he also thrived on setting up a good play with his line mates. Logan was the Broncos leading rookie scorer in the 2017-18 season and was the only rookie in the top 10 scorers. Being a part of a team, he respected all his coaches and learnt valuable skills from his vets.

Love of Sports

Logan enjoyed many sports off the ice. He played SASA Impact soccer, was on his Junior High’s basketball team, and was a competitive ball hockey player. Since he was young, Logan enjoyed being on the water; swimming, tubing or doing water sports.

Logan spent much of his time on the golf course, initiating many rounds with anyone who would play with him. No matter how busy he was with school, sports, or friends, he always found enough time to get a round in. The game of golf came natural to him and was a way for him to relax in the summer months.

The Logan Hunter Memorial Fund

The Logan Hunter Memorial Fund was founded shortly after the accident in April 2018 by a family friend who wanted Logan’s legacy to continue and give others the opportunities that Logan had.

The program at Evolve Pro Hockey prepared Logan both mentally and physically for his rookie year of Junior A hockey. Logan was to return for his second year of off season training and was excited to come back and get to work. After the tragedy, our family felt Logan would want someone to go in his place and have the opportunity to develop their skills just as he had the previous summer. Logan’s mom Shauna reached out to Jack Redlick, head coach of the Midget AAA St. Albert Raiders for some guidance. Logan and Coach Jack had a special relationship and stayed in touch during Logan’s rookie year. With Logan in mind, Jack mentioned a young player who resembled many of the qualities that Logan encompassed as a player. In 2019, the foundation was able to send another young player from the St. Albert Raiders to begin training at Evolve Pro Hockey.

Unfortunately due to COVID, we were unable to send a young player, but the selected player will hopefully attend in 2021.

We were also able to donate to local animal shelters, such as Zoe’s Animal Rescue Society.

Earlier this year in May, The Logan Hunter Memorial Fund made a 5,000.00 donation to Saving Grace Animal Society after Logan’s family rescued Rosie, their new family dog. Logan’s wish would be to continue to support animal shelters and rescues as we know this was close to his heart.

From Logan’s Family

It means a lot to our family to be able to give this opportunity to young athletes and carry on the memory of our son and brother. We will continue to work with coaching staff of the Raiders association to send players to the training program.

With the purchase of the Logan Hunter hoodies, crewnecks, t-shirts and hats, the profit will be placed in the Memorial Fund. We have been closely working with Big North Graphics from Manning AB to design what we think Logan would love.

This wonderful company from Shauna’s hometown gives back 20percent to the fund, and this continued relationship is truly appreciated and valued by Logan’s family.
