Jaxon was a smiley baby from the day he was born.  Younger brother to his big sister Taylor then eventually a big brother to Brett.  He was the classic middle child.  He flew under the radar when it came to getting in trouble (for the most part) and he was flexible adapting to the needs and wants of the rest of his family.

His family home has always been St. Albert, AB. but at a young age Jaxon spent 3 winters in Mannheim, Germany where he first played organized hockey for the Eppelheim Eisbaren.  The family would always come back to St. Albert however, and finally stayed for good when Jaxon was starting his 2nd year of Novice hockey.

He grew up playing St. Albert Minor Hockey (with teammate Stephen Wack) and although Logan Hunter was a couple years younger the two of them had seen each other at the local ODR (Outdoor Rink) as they lived very close.

Jax was more than just a hockey player.  He played Lacrosse and Baseball regularly each spring and loved to ski, wakeboard, and tube ride in the summer at Lake Osoyoos in BC’s Okanagan region.

Jaxon wasn’t always the fastest or best player on the ice but he came to the rink each day with a smile and enthusiasm that showed a true Love for the Game of Hockey, hence the scholarship name.

Schooling at Heidelberg International School, Bertha Kennedy Catholic School, Vincent J. Maloney Catholic Jr. High School, then High School was Bellerose Composite High School.  He made lots of good friends along the way and truly enjoyed seeing everyone at school each day.

After graduating from Midget hockey he started playing Junior B in Trail BC for the Beaver Valley Nitehawks, he didn’t last long there as he got called at Christmas to join the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL where he played 21 games.

The next year went back and was released by the team right after training camp.  He was devastated, but fortunately for him he was picked up by the Melfort Mustangs of the SJHL where he was given the opportunity.  He was in Melfort for a year and a bit until his trade to Humboldt on Nov. 1, 2017.

He truly loved his Broncos teammates and spoke about how the team got along better than any team he had been on before.  He was in a happy place for his last year of Junior Hockey and looked forward to playing College Hockey and attending school the next year.

Those that knew Jaxon would talk about his competitiveness, his silliness, and his smile.  He loved to joke around with the guys, he considered himself quite the ping pong player and would try to beat his teammates, he was proud of the fact that he could catch a grape (or any bite sized food) in his mouth if thrown at him from far away.

Even though he had so many child-like qualities, his family could see him growing into a man in his Junior Hockey days.  He spoke about university, he fell in love with a beautiful girl from Saskatoon, he was maturing the way a young man does at that age.  He had plans for the future.

Jaxon is missed every day by his family and friends.

Jaxon Joseph “For the Love of the Game” Award

SACF (St. Albert Community Foundation Scholarship)

Through all the ups and downs of being a hockey player Jaxon continued to arrive at the rink with a smile on his face. He truly enjoyed all the times in the dressing room, riding the bus, or just hanging out with team-mates. Jaxon was the happiest when he was with “the boys”.

Jaxon carried with him a strong sense of competition and drive to be better each and every time he practiced or played. Although he didn’t always make the top AAA team, he continued with determination and the desire to push his game to the next level with the ultimate goal to play NCAA Division One hockey.

Jaxon never gave up on his dream because of his “Love of the Game”.

The Jaxon Joseph “For the Love of the Game” Memorial Scholarship is focused on those players who deeply love the game of hockey, who love and demonstrate the teamwork that goes along with the sport, and to those who additionally support the communities that support the player.
