Adam Herold

April 12, 2001 – April 6, 2018
Hometown: MontMartre, SK
#6
Position: Defence

Adam Herold was the youngest player lost in the Humboldt bus tragedy. He died less than a week before his 17th birthday.

Adam grew up on the family farm near Montmartre, Sask., the son of Russell and Raelene and younger brother to Erin. His love for hockey began at age 2. Over the years, he worked hard to develop his skills, playing with many minor hockey teams in and around Montmartre. He spent his last season as captain of the Regina AAA Pat Canadians.

Adam was called up to play with the Broncos after the Pat Canadians were eliminated from the playoffs. During his short time in Humboldt, Adam also drove back and forth to Prince Albert to practise with his WHL team, the Prince Albert Raiders.

Even though he was a promising hockey player, Adam was so much more. Outside of the rink, he was a model student, an avid outdoorsman and proud of his rural roots. He loved spending time with his family, whether that was travelling to tournaments, taking vacations, spending time at the lake and just hanging around the farm. Adam was a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, a teammate and a friend to so many. He had a big heart and an old soul and was always doing things to help others and to make his community a better place.

ADAM HEROLD LEGACY FOUNDATION

In 2018 the Herold Family, along with former coaches, family and friends started the Adam Herold Legacy Foundation.  The Adam Herold Legacy Foundation mission:  to actively develop today’s youth of Saskatchewan to create tomorrow’s leaders.  The foundation also gives out 2 scholarships each year, $1000 to a defenseman in the AAA Saskatchewan Midget League and $500 to a Regina Pat Canadian player.

ADAM’S SHACK

Because Adam loved to snowmobile, the Herold Family built a snowmobile warm up Shack in Adam’s memory.  The Shack is located on our land where Adam and his Dad often snowmobiled.  The Shack is for all to use and visit.

ADAM HEROLD MEMORIAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

The Herold Family purchased a quarter section of native grass and bush near the Herold Farm in memory of Adam.  From a young age Adam was an avid outdoorsman, always concerned about the loss of habitat in our area.  This land will remain as is forever, in Adam’s memory.

THE ADAM HEROLD MEMORIAL ROOM

The Herold family built the Adam Herold Memorial Room at the Co-operators Centre in Regina where Adam played with the Regina Pat Canadians for 2 Seasons 2016-2017 and as Captain in 2017/2018.  The room is a player’s lounge, coach’s office and trainer and equipment manager’s area for the Regina Pat Canadians.

ADAM’S GYM

A group of Adam’s classmates initiated an idea to create a fitness centre in memory of Adam at Montmartre School for staff and students to use.  The Herold family made a generous donation to Montmartre School so that they could acquire equipment they needed to make the gym a viable space for all to use.

MONTMARTRE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP

The Herold family will give out a $500 scholarship each year to a graduate of Montmartre School.  The ADAM HEROLD MEMORIAL AWARD will be presented to the Montmartre School graduate who best exemplifies the qualities of Adam Herold- leading by example and being a positive influence in everything they do.  Adam would have been part of the 2019 Graduating Class in Montmartre School.  In memory of Adam the scholarship was given to all 17 of Adam’s classmates that he went to school with since kindergarten.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS

At the annual Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament, a $2500 scholarship will be given in memory of Adam Herold, who played in the tournament with Saskatchewan Junior Pats in 2011. The Scholarship will be awarded to a player who best exemplifies the following criteria:  academic excellence, community involvement, role model characteristics, positive attitude, and athletic accolades.

The Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament introduced the Adam Herold Award which is presented to a player who shows great courage and perseverance.  The player will be someone who has overcome adversity with leadership and dedication to the game of hockey.  Adam participated in the KIBIHT tournament during his time playing with Prairie Storm and was named the tournament’s Top Defenseman and a First Team All-Star in 2016.
