Michael Behiel

Michael Behiel

Mayor

In Office:
Elected as Mayor in 2020
2016 - 2020 as Councillor

The Behiel family moved to Humboldt when Michael was 3, after Michael’s father finished his law degree and started practicing with a firm here. Humboldt was chosen as the family roots have been within the region for generations.   When Michael was 19, he left to attend post secondary school in Saskatoon. His career took him around the province over the course of the next couple decades.

When the opportunity presented itself in 2011, Michael was happy to move back to Humboldt and open his tax and accounting business which he continues to run today.

He has a great interest in history, especially Canadian history, and regional history more so, as he feels it helps to understand what defines who we are today and how we got to this point.

Although running a hectic schedule, he has a passion for helping whenever he can and continues to do charitable and volunteer work with many different organizations, such as Cubs and Scouts, the Hospital Foundation, and the SPCA.

Michael was first elected to City Council in 2016 as a councillor and now elected in 2020 as Mayor.

“For many years while I was living away from Humboldt, I closely followed the issues and advancements of Humboldt, and when I returned, I saw the opportunity to actively take a role in helping shape Humboldt into the best it can be.  As Mayor, I intend to utilize my accounting and financial experience to continue the momentum created in the past four years and work to keep our tax increases low, while still focusing on replacing and expanding infrastructure and business to the benefit of all citizens of Humboldt.”
