In 2019, the City of Humboldt received a generous donation of 6 new fire hydrants from Mueller Co., an international waterworks and fire protection systems manufacturer, as a gesture to show their support following the Humboldt Broncos bus tragedy in 2018. These hydrants will replace the hydrants that line Main Street currently decorated as miniature hockey players.
In 2011, the hydrants on Main Street were creatively painted to illustrate miniature Bronco players by a group of volunteers led by Janice Ruedig. At that time, the project was to remind people of the community spirit when Humboldt placed second in the running for Kraft’s Hockeyville. Following that, the exciting atmosphere continued when Humboldt was host to the Junior A National Championship, the “Royal Bank Cup”. Once again, Janice organized another group of volunteers to transform the replacement hydrants into commemorative symbols. Our volunteers came up with the a unique design scheme to accommodate the new hydrant style while upholding the same theme by painting the fire hydrants in authentic Humboldt Broncos colors, green and gold, along with the Broncos’ logo decals.
The City of Humboldt would like to sincerely thank Mueller Co. and their local distributor, Wolseley Canada Inc. for their generous donation, as well as Janice Ruedig and the artistic volunteers who took the time to paint the hydrants, namely:
Shauna Elliott
Tracy Bells
Gayle Dagenais
Dawn Ehlert
Tammy Ward
Isabella Ward
Installation of the new hydrants is tentatively scheduled to be within the next couple of weeks.
