Norm started employment with the City on July 14, 2003, in the Parks department. In 2004, they began developing Water Ridge Park where he spent many hours picking rocks and dumping them along the walk out into the water. Following that, he seeded the grass.
Norm enjoyed making ice at the Elgar Petersen Arena where he watched many hockey games throughout the winter months and met people from all over the province. Dean Brockman told him that the changes made in ice maintenance made Humboldt having the best ice in the SJHL.
In May of 2007, when Leon Loose retired from his position in Leisure Services, the City split that position, and Norm became Parks Supervisor, with Lawrence Dunne becoming the Facilities Supervisor. Norm was in this position only until August 19 of 2007, when he had an accident and broke his back.
In the summer of 2008, the City Manager found a way for him to return to work by riding his bike around the City taking stock of all City boulevard trees. With the help of physio therapy, he improved and was able to slowly return to work part time as the Bylaw Enforcement Officer. On February 1, 2011, Norm became a full time Bylaw Enforcement Officer.
Norm took great pride in his position as Bylaw Enforcement Officer. He thanks City Council, Administration and staff for all the help over the years. And to the citizens of Humboldt for continuing to do their part in keeping Humboldt a safe and clean City, and a great place to live!
Norm officially retired on May 13, 2021. We thank Norm for his many years of dedicated service and wish him all the best in his retirement!
