Today, April 29, 2021, is Transportation Supervisor, Murray Knackstedt’s, last day of employment with the City of Humboldt after many years of dedicated service.
Murray’s first employer was the Town of Humboldt back in the early 1970’s. Joe Urbanoski was the foreman at the time and employed Murray on a seasonal basis for 3-4 years. Murray then left to work in water, sewer, and road construction for various companies. Murray was even involved with the construction of residential areas west of 16th Street in Humboldt. Interestingly, Murray also helped build the furthest south lagoon cell which was completed in 2001. Murray returned to work for the City of Humboldt in 2004 as a Pipelayer under the direction of Dale Hemm. In the years following, Murray naturally took an Equipment Operator position. Around 2010, then City Manager Tom Goulden, promoted Murray to Transportation Supervisor which he held until his retirement.
Murray obtained a vast knowledge and skillset towards underground utility and roadway construction which made him successful in every position he held. His attention to detail and unwavering workmanship created a reputation. Often Murray would be requested by name as his operating capabilities were known to many in the community. Murray also assisted with many of the key projects that the department planned and completed over the years. His vast knowledge, experience and confidence made his input and opinions not only valued but crucial to the planning process. Murray’s caliber of character and work ethic were appreciated and respected by the department and will be missed. The City of Humboldt thanks you for your dedication and contributions you have made to our community. Congratulations, Murray!
