LAWRENCE DUNNE, FACILITY MAINTENANCE MANAGER, RETIRES:

Posted: June 29, 2021

Today, June 29th, 2021, is Facility Maintenance Manager, Lawrence Dunne’s, last day of employment with the City of Humboldt after 25 years of dedicated service. Over the course of his employment with the City, Lawrence never backed down from a challenge and was always looking for ways to improve the facilities that are vital to our community.

Lawrence began his career with the Community and Leisure Services’ department in 1996 as an Aquatic Centre Pool Technician. In 2001, Lawrence was promoted to the position of Building Maintenance Worker. In 2007, Lawrence was promoted to Facility Maintenance Manager. In this role he was responsible for all facility operations within the Leisure Services Department, including our multi-recreational facility, the Uniplex. In addition to knowing every square inch of the facility, Lawrence took the time to fully understand the various components and found practical ways to improve its functionalities.

In 2008, Lawrence played a leadership role in the renovations of the Uniplex that included many energy efficient projects within the arena and curling rink. In 2009 to 2012, Lawrence was a key player when we linked the new high school and community college to the Uniplex.

In addition to his knowledge and tremendous work ethic, Lawrence also had a positive impact on all those who were fortunate to work with him. He built a reputation as the guy who would drop what he was doing to attend to the needs of others, often times returning to work at any hour to solve problems and assist with breakdowns – more times than we can count. His willingness to train his staff and to listen to their concerns and suggestions, created a positive work environment.

In 2014, the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association awarded Lawrence with the Facilities Operations Award which is presented to a long-term practitioner whose leadership in the facilities sector demonstrates extraordinary achievement in the enhancement of recreational facilities in Saskatchewan. Lawrence would be the first to tell you that he was just doing his job and quick to deflect any praise or complements on to his fellow co-workers. His humble attitude, his sense of humor and his care for his coworkers will be greatly missed.

The City of Humboldt thanks Lawrence for his years of dedication and many contributions to our community. Congratulations Lawrence on your well-deserved retirement.
